Characteristic properties of magnesium
Specific to magnesium is its low density (1,800 kg/cubic metre), which makes it suitable when low weight is of high priority, and for products where it is important to save energy or that have to be carried.
Magnesium is used, for example, in aircraft, motorcycles, laptop computers and mobile telephones. More recently, ever-larger components have begun to be manufactured by die-casting as the technique has been developed.
Characteristic properties of aluminium
As the name implies, aluminium-based alloys consist mainly of aluminium. This type of alloy has a fairly low density, a good resistance to corrosion, and is easy to machine compared, for example, with plastic.
